About Ailsa

I discovered the Alexander Technique as a result of my own lower back pain over twenty years ago and wanted an alternative to constant visits to the osteopath. I found that the technique not only addressed my back pain, but made me much more aware of my body and how it worked in conjunction with my mind and thought processes. I gained a sense of calm and well being and became fascinated by the way in which the mind can influences our bodies in such a subtle way. It also gave me a greater sense of myself and helped me to cope with a busy management development and training consultancy.

After several years of lessons I decided to train, initially in Brighton with Caroline and John Nichols and in my final year at the Constructive Teaching Centre with Walter Carrington who was one of the first people to be trained by Alexander and who inherited his school when he retired.

I have been teaching for 20 years in London and Bath in private practice, adult education and at a school of performing arts. I have written a book on the technique:

The Alexander Technique a Step-by-Step Guide Pub Thorsons-Element.

I continue to develop my own practice as a teacher, working with other teachers and through on-going professional development.

I am a member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT). Every qualified Society member completes a three year training course. I follow the Code of Professional Conduct of the Society. I am fully insured and hold a current CRB certificate.
