Anna Auty - dangerous!

Service

Hi guys, I went to Anna Auty with my (now ex) GF who was suffering from eating disorders. Anna talked her into believing it was my fault and went with her to a police station where they both gave statements, which got me arrested and cost me my career (I was a police officer!) They then moved in together for a short period! This woman is extremely dangerous and if the Police had done their job would he behind bars!

I'm not sure what to make of the other comments. I found Anna very helpful and dedicated. She helped me with my weight and diet and self-confidence.

I am so relieved to read Samathas Review and I have looked at the SWEDA pages and am uncovering other terrible stories. My expereinces were shocking and unethical does not even come close to explaining this place.

I want to keep this message fairly short but I am absolutely horrified that i have just come across this other review. I was in hospital this recentlydue to low potassium, consequent of an eating disorder. The only reason i got these blood tests done was based on anna's advise. If i had not seen her I would likely have been dead before christmas. I have been working with anna and found her techniques and approach amazing, she is giving me the skills to get over my problem unlike several other counsellors ive seen previously who simply just want to ask me 'how do you feel?' the whole time. Me talking about how i feel does not solve the issue, giving me the tools to get over my problems does. Long story short, ive made more progress in 2 months with anna that i have in 5 years with antyother help ive sought.

A terrible experience

I approached this 'psychologist' as she had a great website and sounded very professional. It was a terrible mistake. She actually has no recognised professional therapeutic qualifications which involve a thorough therapy training to a very high standard and she is not regulated by any professional body. She is a member of the British Psychological Society but anyone with a psychology degree can do this and it doesn't mean much in terms of regulation around practising privately. The term 'psychologist' is not restricted by law so don't assume it means someone is a highly trained professional, even if they claim to have a lot of experience. Being on a therapist register with a professional body means someone has had a recognised therapy training and works to a strict code of ethics. This is crucial to a safe therapeutic experience. Anna Auty is not on any such register or have any properly accreditated and widely accepted therapeutic qualifications from any of the main UK counselling, psychotherapy and psychology bodies. Anna Auty is happy to admit that her reasons for setting up in private practice at the age of 23/24 was due to her own experience of having anorexia in her teens (whether this is a good motive or not is up to you to decide but I suggest not in this case). Due to this, she has great empathy with any new patients (she does not have 'clients' at this practice) that she sees and it is easy to feel that she understands you more than the average health professional. She also presents herself as very warm, caring, capable, competent, professional and important when you first meet her. Please don't assume this means that she actually is. Stay impartial and make up your own mind. I thought my bad experience during my two years of 'therapy' at this clinic were due to me and my problems but since talking to other ex-clients and being brave enough to see a new (properly qualified, BACP accredited) counsellor , I have realised that there were quite harmful and unethical elements to my treatment that were sold to me as 'therapy'. In 2006 a serious case review around child protection took place into this clinic (you can google 'serious case review bath' to read it online) and this started to uncover the cracks in Anna Auty's professional facade. Since then she has managed to set herself up again but her reputation locally is not good (search the SWEDA website). I was sadly quite traumatised by my experience at this Clinic. I felt it lacked safe therapeutic boundaries and bordered on unethical practice. I would not recommend that anyone goes to this Clinic unless they want to end up with more problems than they started with.
